Animal Farm

"All Animals Are Equal But Some Are More Equal Than Others" -George Orwell
In preparation for my trip to Russia, I have been reading a book that I have been putting it off for some time now. I used to hear people discuss Animal Farm and have no idea what they were talking about. I'm not sure where the idea popped into my head, but I decided to pick it up from the LCC library and read it. It is a very entertaining read, a clear history of the founding and development of the U.S.S.R. using an animal farm yard as its setting.

Sparknotes says this about Orwell: "Although Orwell believed strongly in socialist ideals, he felt that the Soviet Union realized these ideals in a terribly perverse form. His novella creates its most powerful ironies in the moments in which Orwell depicts the corruption of Animalist ideals by those in power."

You can find the complete overview of the book on Sparknotes here. Do I recommend this book? Yes. To you? Sure. It's a fast read, but keep in mind that it was written in 1945 by an English man. Enough said, enjoy.

so how do you anticipate your trip to Russia being different, now that you've read Animal Farm?

"Four legs good, two legs bad."

:)

It won't be different, I was just looking for an excuse to read the book.
